Champlin man charged with launching fireworks near Sen. John Hoffman’s house

The neighbor of State Sen. John Hoffman faces misdemeanor charges after he allegedly set off illegal fireworks with the intent of harassing the lawmaker and his family, court filings show.

Jeffery Scott Maciej, 66, of Champlin, faces counts of harassment and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident the evening of July 4.

According to a criminal complaint, Champlin police responded to the report of illegal fireworks being launched in Maciej’s driveway and told him to stop. Maciej asked if his neighbor, Hoffman, had reported the fireworks but the officer did not answer.
