Campfire restrictions lifted for all of Superior National Forest

State and federal officials on Monday lifted all remaining campfire restrictions in northeast Minnesota, a sign that the threat of wildfires has subsided — for now.

At noon, the U.S. Forest Service and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources gave the green light for the resumption of campfires in Superior National Forest — including in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness — and across Cook, Lake and St. Louis counties.

Permits are required for fires burning grass, leaves, logs, or branches; fires larger than 3 feet high by 3 feet wide; and fires that aren’t contained within a fire ring.
