As Minnesotans organized against ICE, DHS spied on meetings, subpoenaed bank records, court filings say

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security spied on Minnesota churches, unions, libraries and schools in its investigation of individuals and groups who opposed the federal government’s immigration crackdown earlier this year, according to a new court filing.

Kevin Riach, a defense attorney representing Isaac Sant, one of 15 “antifa” defendants charged in an alleged conspiracy to obstruct U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in the Twin Cities, detailed how federal agents infiltrated protests and group chats, obtained financial records of labor unions and nonprofits, and compiled entire dossiers on people who attended informational meetings during Operation Metro Surge.
