Another proposed mega merger: HealthPartners, Essentia Health boards approve plan to combine organizations

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — HealthPartners and Essentia Health announced that their boards of directors have approved an affiliation agreement to combine the two Minnesota-based nonprofit health systems.

The combined organization will operate under the HealthPartners name and bring together 22 hospitals, more than 135 clinics and 6,000 clinicians, creating one of the region's largest nonprofit health systems. Essentia Health facilities will continue to use the Essentia Health name while integration efforts move forward, according to the news release. HealthPartners is based in Bloomington, while Essentia Health is headquartered in Duluth.
