Anoka-Hennepin teachers in limbo as district has yet to approve new social studies curriculum

Minnesota’s new social studies standards are taking effect this fall.

But some teachers and parents in the Anoka-Hennepin School District say with the start of school starting right after Labor Day, they’re frustrated.

“It’s really stressful for teachers,” says John Wolhaupter, president of Anoka-Hennepin Education Minnesota, which represents about 3,200 educators. “Really, we are past the deadline on a lot of these conversations.”

Those conversations are focused on the district’s social studies curriculum, parts of which have yet to be approved by the school board.
