President Donald Trump told reporters that officials were doing a "check on the slide" on the new Qatari-gifted jet.

WASHINGTON — Air Force One deployed its emergency slide shortly before President Donald Trump departed for a Republican convention in Dallas on Wednesday.

Trump told reporters on the tarmac that the emergency slide was deployed because "they were doing a check on the slide" and that it would take about 15 minutes. The checks on the new Qatari-gifted jet delayed Trump's departure from Joint Base Andrews.
