The celebration of Hmong American Day at Txuj Xi Lower Campus reflects pride in cultural heritage.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — The gym at Txuj Xi Lower Campus was filled with music and celebration this week as students, parents, and teachers gathered to honor the upcoming Hmong American Day, a milestone that would have been unimaginable just a generation ago.

For years, the Hmong language was not allowed in schools. Now, students sing in Hmong, a change that brings pride to families and educators alike.

“We are allowed to speak Hmong because of these trailblazers,” said May Lee Xiong, principal of the Hmong and English dual immersion school in St. Paul. 

It's just a coincidence that Mother's Day is also around the corner.
