SALADO, Texas — Two people on board a military helicopter were killed when it crashed in a village in central Texas on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Officials with Fort Hood confirmed that the crash in Salado involved an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter based at the installation.
The Bell County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened in a field about 1:34 p.m. No houses or structures were hit. Residents within the area were evacuated due to a large grass fire from the crash.
The identities of the two people killed have not been released.
